To see Mont Blanc had always been a burning desire, a dream etched deep within my soul.
On January 19th, we set out early in the morning from Sofia, traveling all day to reach Ljubljana. We spent the night at Mostiček Grill House & Hostel, a small and charming inn. We enjoyed a delicious pizza at Gostilnica in picerija KOCKA. Exhausted from the 812 km journey, we quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up early, strolling by the frozen beauty of Lake Zbilje. Graceful swans glided across the icy waters, and the snow-covered park provided a serene backdrop for our upcoming journey. I returned to the hostel for a tasty Slovenian breakfast.
It was time to hit the road again. Along the way, we frequently stopped for breaks and coffee. In Italy, coffee is a perfect experience, but and the allure for Mont Blanc grew stronger.
Our next stop was Bergamo, Italy, for a coffee break and some shopping for dinner. Knowing we would arrive late in Chamonix, we needed to secure our meals.
At 8:12 PM on January 20th, the illuminated sign of Chamonix-Mont Blanc finally greeted us. The realization of my dream to see Mont Blanc sent shivers down my spine.
We rented a Appartement Arolles in Argentière. When we arrived, it was already dark. The Appartement Arolles was vast, with three bedrooms with baths, and two living rooms. One of the living rooms was huge, with a furnished kitchenette and dining area—a spacious place for six people.
We dined, talked late into the night, and made plans for the next 9 days. We went to bed late, tired but filled with hope.
As January 21st dawned, a sense of anticipation and excitement filled the air. For one adventurer, this day marked the fulfillment of a dream – an encounter with the majestic Montblanc. I stood on the terrace, the world seemed to stand still as Montblanc loomed in the distance, a sight that left me the observer breathless in sheer awe.
After purchasing a walking card online, my journey began. The hiking map, the key to unlocking the beauty of the Alps, allowed convenient access to various points of interest, including Aiguille du Midi and Montenver-Mer de Glas. The first leg of the expedition brought me to the iconic Aiguille du Midi.
Departing Argentiere, I embarked on a bus journey to the center of Chamonix, the starting point of the climb. The walking card not only covers entrance fees but also includes bus travel.
The ascent to the Aiguille du Midi involves a breathtaking gondola and cable car that gradually reveal the panoramic beauty of the Alps.
On reaching the top, a mesmerizing sight was revealed. Montblanc, standing tall and proud, dominated the landscape.
The vast expanse of the Alps stretched out, offering a perspective that made Chamonix seem insignificant. Hours were spent in rapt admiration, the wind whispering stories of centuries past and the changing temperatures adding to the surreal experience.
Standing on the third level of the Aiguille du Midi, at an altitude of 3,842 meters, I captured the moment with photos next to the sign at the summit.
The promise to return echoed in the air as I vowed to experience and absorb even more beauty in the future.
Descending reluctantly, I enjoyed the panoramic views during the gondola ride. A coffee break on the second level, Plan de l’Aiguille, provided me with a peaceful interlude among skiers and walkers. I would describe the serenity of the moment as „balm for the soul,“ a testament to the serenity found amidst the majesty of nature.
After an hour and a half of wonderful rest on the Plan de l’Aiguille, followed by a descent to Chamonix by cable car. I leisurely explored the city center, researched with numerous photos, and captured the essence of the day. As the sun began to set, I boarded the bus to Argentiere, where a friend was eagerly awaiting me.
Excitement spilled over as I shared the day’s experiences, trying to convey the rich tapestry of images etched in my mind. Satisfied and elated, I returned home, where the day ended with mesmerizing views of the Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc.
With two terraces providing unparalleled views, I continued to witness the beauty of Mont Blanc through sunsets and sunrises for the next nine days. Each day brought new revelations, painting a story of satisfaction and joy, making this journey an unforgettable chapter in my life.
